Airbus Case Study

Inter-Informatics is part of a narrow group of direct suppliers of Airbus and cooperates with the company on all of the running programmes.

Airbus Deutschland GmbH

German part of Airbus is a supplier of interiors for all types of Airbus aircrafts. Furthermore, it designs and manufactures the fuselage sections containing, besides their structure, also distributions of individual systems and cabling.

Cooperation

Our cooperation with Airbus began in 2000, with a project for cca 15 design engineers and with the scope of work concerning rather simple tasks of the part modeling type. Gradually we have assumed more extensive and complex projects and responsibility. Today, our specialists are part of design departments of the customer. They solve independently modifications of individual customer aircraft versions as well as parts of the new structure development. The total of about 150 of our design engineers participate in the design projects at present.

Types of projects for the customer

Customizing of customer aircraft versions

The content of our work within these projects lies in structural modifications of aircraft interiors connected with specific requirements of end customers (aircraft companies). This requires, besides good knowledge of the structural parts and flawless work, especially high flexibility of our design engineers. We must meet very short delivery deadlines, while preserving high quality, of course.

The projects concern the following programmes:

  • Single Aisle (A318, A319, A320, A321)
  • Long Range (A330, A340)

The following structural groups are processed

  • Interior
  • Structure (secondary)
  • Systems (water, air, oxygen)
  • Electro (cable bundles)

About 70% of the work is performed within our offices in Prague and Pilsen, thus not within the customer’s premises. Activities such as input data preparation and completed data integration are performed directly at the customer in Hamburg.

Systems used:

  • Catia V5, Catia V4, Cadam
  • Enovia VPM
  • Division Mock-Up

Development of new structural solutions

Here we participate in the structural proposal of new groups, especially of the interior. These are the most complex projects with the highest responsibility, at the same time. Besides precise knowledge of structural parts and lawless work, they also require a considerable part of organizational activities. These activities lie in project management, in organizing and coordinating of previous and subsequent activities of other suppliers as well as of Airbus itself. From the structural point of view, we perform all activities starting from the proposal, to design and detailing, up to creation of the drawing documentation and lists of parts.

The projects concern the following programmes:

  • A380 and A380F (freight version)
  • Single Aisle (A318)

The following structural groups are processed

  • Interior
  • Structure (primary and secondary)
  • Electro (cable bundles)

About 60% of the work is performed within our offices in Prague and Pilsen, thus not within the customer’s premises. Activities related with project management, coordination of the design departments activities, input data preparation and completed data integration, are performed directly at the customer in Hamburg.

Systems used:

  • Catia V4, Cadam
  • Enovia VPM
  • Division Mock-Up

DataMigration and investigation of collisions

Several projects are focused on creation of uniform structural data by transferring the existing 2D drawings as well as 3D models. Virtual prototypes of aircrafts are thus created, using which collisions and design mistakes and inaccuracies are determined and removed, before the very manufacture. The customer thus saves considerable costs in the manufacturing process. The projects concern especially large aircrafts of the programme Long Range - A330, A340. DataMigration includes investigation of causes of collisions in the structure and their removal.

The following structural groups are processed:

  • Structure (primary and secondary)
  • Interior
  • Systems (water, air, oxygen, hydraulics)
  • Electro (cable bundles distributions)

Within the framework of the projects mentioned, together with the customer we have verified massive implementation of the new CAD system Catia V5 including processing of the work methodologies.

Systems used:

  • Catia V5, Catia V4, Cadds5, Cadam, Theorem CADverter
  • Enovia VPM, Primes (Windchill, EPD.Connect, Optegra)
  • Division Mock-Up

The total volume of projects until today is ca. 350,000 hours. 95% of the work is performed within our offices in Prague and Pilsen, thus not within the customer’s premises. Activities such as input data preparation and completed data integration are performed directly at the customer in Hamburg.
